How CDPass works

The service takes the form of an online promotion for any specific CD or DVD title. Any production CD or DVD, new or old, can have a CDPass promotion targeted for it. There is nothing special about manufacturing a disc for use with CDPass. When a consumer accesses the bonus at a specific web site, and places the promoted disc in their computer, CDPass authenticates the unique information that identifies that specific CD or DVD title. The service simply utilizes data already present on any disc.

CDPass delivers ultimate flexibility, compared to an enhanced CD, at a fraction of the cost. The promotion on an enhanced CD is fixed. Since it is burned onto the CD, it can never be changed. A CDPass promotion can be updated at any time.

Digital bonus content can be protected using Digital Rights Management (DRM) encryption. Content stays exclusive because an electronic key for the promoted disc is required to unlock and play the bonus material. DRM prevents the bonus content from being copied and shared with others.


Intuitive access and exclusive control

Getting to the bonus is simple. All a user needs is a promoted music CD or DVD and a computer with internet access.

A. The user is directed to the introduction page for a promotion. This could be prompted by a link from a fan site, or printing on a disc's jewel case, for example.
B. On this page, the user is introduced to CDPass and the specific promotion. The user may be asked to enter an email address and home zip code before proceeding.
C. The next page installs the control that recognizes the promoted disc on the user's computer. The control is small and functions in the background.
D. After verification of the music CD or DVD, the bonus material is presented to the user via a set of links on the branded bonus material page. This page is accessible only to users that have gone through the verification process.
E. When the end-user clicks on a link for a bonus track or video, the default media player for the media is activated, and the bonus material is played.

Service Level
